"Próximo Oriente" is a show broadcasted on Rádio Macau about what "Asia" or "oriental" convey in musical terms. It consists on weekly expeditions in search of representations of the Orient, an image constructed and fantasised through sound. We will be wandering across different soundscapes and exoticisms, under the spell of music from far away places.

#4 As Cores Psicadélicas da Coreia

In this trip we spend the first few days of autumn in Korea, listening to the sound of old vinyl from when rock was just being discovered and the world was painted with psychedelics’ new colours. We hear soft-spoken Korean radio announcers introducing night-time FM ballads and we are startled at the sound of excited advertisements coming from the North in the form of speeches and songs. We hear a half-divided and delirious country dreaming with reunification and peace. "Be sure to wear some flowers in your hair."

Nesta viagem ao Próximo Oriente, passamos os primeiros dias de Outono na Coreia ao som de vinis antigos do tempo em que se descobria o rock e se aprendia a ver o mundo pintado com as novas cores do psicadelismo. Ouvimos radialistas coreanas de voz suave anunciando baladas de FM nocturno e sobressaltamo-nos ao som de anúncios excitados que vêm do Norte, na forma de discursos e músicas. Ouvimos um país dividido ao meio que sonha e delira com a paz da reunificação.
